The clique mentality
In this “Marie Claire” article, Geraldine Campbell says American women gravitate toward clubs and seek inclusion. Since many women in America feel that their lives are becoming increasingly independent and busy, they look to organized group settings as time to talk. Whereas clubs used to be for reading and discussing books, the outlets have grown enormously: running club, movie club, cocktail club…you name it. Do women participate in these clubs because of FOMO (fear of missing out), or is it just more enjoyable than spending time in solitude? Is it an obligation to attend the club meetings, or something we repeatedly want to participate in? Campbell believes answers vary.
